Here we go….Hallow Needle Biopsy

The mammogram office let me know that a nearby hospital could see me November 20th. I said okay and scheduled the appointment. In my mind I was FREAKING out! You drop possible “CANCER” on me and tell me I need to wait a month for answers?! Hell no. My “get shit done” surfaced and I called another hospital the next day and they were able to schedule me for November 4th. I got a call about 20 minutes later telling me they had a cancelation that day (10/24) and asked if I could come in today. I said “I’ll be there in 45 minutes”, got in my car and hit the road. 

The radiologist the day before showed me 2 areas that were near each other. The total area of both masses was less than 3 mm. The assumption was that they were the same mass so we only biopsied one area. The procedure was painless aside from the first numbing local injection. They took the samples and placed a small metal marker in my breast tissue so in the future they knew that area was already biopsied and I wouldn’t have to do this again. I look back now and smile because aside from the whole “cancer” thing, one of my concerns was “Can I go through a metal detector with this in?” -the answer is yes.

One last mammogram after the procedure to make sure the marker was in place and I was on my way home where I refreshed my health app every few hours waiting and hoping the results would come back sooner than they expected.

 I have only involved my family and a few close friends in my cancer journey. I’ve found the more people that know, the more people I have to update when I have info. Or even worse, reply to texts asking if I have updates when I don’t. Last day of radiation!

  I have gone to all my radiation treatments alone thus far. I’ve had my sisters meet me at the hospital, but I’ve done the 45 min drive to the hospital alone. Today it is my last treatment, and my husband, Derek, was planning to come with me. We woke up, got ready to go, and I notice my 3 boys are up early (which if anyone has teenage boys can tell you, that does NOT happen). Derek and I get in the car and start to pull out of the driveway and out come my 3 boys! I start crying and tell them they don’t need to come but they assured me it was a big deal and they wanted to be there to support me. Once we arrived at the hospital, I went in for treatment and while I was back there, Derek and the boys changed into these breast cancer shirts. I came out of treatment to a wave of pink waiting for me! It was very emotional and some very kind volunteer was able to grab this photo outside the radiology lab. ”Concerning areas”

  I’m not sure I’ll keep this post or not. I had my 1 year follow up diagnostic mammogram and they found 2 calcification spots that were “concerning”. The nurse told me they needed more images of my right side. My previous issues were with my LEFT side, so when she said right, I replied “Right? That’s not good…” The first spot “looks almost identical to the one they found in 2023 that turned out to be cancer, so we want to biopsy that one” The 2nd spot “looks like normal calcifications, but it is brighter than it was in past images.” I told them I’ve already met my deductible and out of pocket for the year, and I would feel better about doing a biopsy on both locations. So once again, after calling around to local hospitals, I was able to get an appointment 10 days before the closest hospital could get me in.
